Pirates beat Beamer's Hokies at their own game!August 30, 2008 9:50 pm
I was starting to think that those two awful plays in the first half were going to be our undoing. It was sweet to finally see Virginia Tech get beaten on a special teams play. Great job T.J. Lee, who was a one man show on that play, blocking the punt, recovering it and returning it for the winning touchdown. I have heard all over the boards that this was an upset, but I think anyone that was paying attention knew this was going to be a dogfight. If we win next week, that would be an upset. WVU is a great football team that is coming off a solid victory over Villanova. I think we have a better than average chance of pulling the upset at home riding the momentum of this week's win over VT. I mean, how much can West Virginia really find out about their team playing Villanova? If the Wildcats were able to stay on the field with them, I feel confident that we will not be blown out like we were last year against them. Enjoy the feeling Pirate fans. Mission #1 Accomplished! Category: NCAAF Bonesville post puts the past in perspectiveJune 20, 2008 2:23 pm
A few days ago, Denny O'Brien posted on Bonesville about the subject of Big East expansion in light of the announcment of Mike Tranghese retiring in 2009. Its highly complimentary of Terry Holland and his efforts to make us a more attractive commodity in the conference affiliation game. He also takes a swipe at Mike Hamrick primarily for being asleep at the wheel for years. TH is by no means perfect. I still question the move to remove Herrion if you can't produce anything better than Ricky Stokes as a replacement, but I understand the rationale. Terry Holland is on a mission...anyone can see that. After years of watching Mike Hamrick's act, its refreshing to see someone displaying the same conviction and passion at the AD level that the fans do at the grass roots. The Pirate Nation supports this administration like it has no other. I have many, many personal stories about the ineptness and low class affair Hamrick was. Maybe I will share them one day, but I for one am glad that we no longer have snake oil salesmen running our athletic program. We have had some thick smoke on and off the past few weeks. I see a lot of folks with runny noses and blood shot eyes. If any of our players are as allergic as my girl friend is I don't think they could practice. I am from Nags Head and I work for a planning firm full time. I also do residential home design from my house. When I was in school I worked for 95.3 The Wave. I did the graveyard shift and had a blast! Thanks for letting me on the crew! I can handle the gunners post on the port side for the standard officers 1.25 share! For turkey's I recomend grape shot! Arrrrrrrrrrgh! Category: NCAAF Tags: ecu
